RTM and iFLYTEK Forge Strategic Partnership
On March 19, Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) and iFLYTEK Co., Ltd. officially entered into a strategic cooperation agreement. The collaboration will focus on advancing AI applications across media production, including film/TV translation and dubbing, real-time subtitling, and AI-generated content creation. This partnership aims to pioneer new approaches for the media industry's intelligent transformation while enhancing cross-language communication and information accessibility.
Powerhouse Alliance: Powering Global Communication Through Technology
As Malaysia's oldest state-owned broadcaster, RTM runs 33 radio stations and 6 TV channels with wide-ranging media production and distribution capabilities. Meanwhile, iFLYTEK's subsidiary Tingjian Technology—a specialist in AI-powered speech-to-text and translation solutions—has served over 85 million direct users and reached 200 million+ within its ecosystem.
The partnership synergizes RTM's media resources with iFLYTEK's AI capabilities, advancing digital transformation across Malaysia's media landscape and beyond through three strategic priorities: Multilingual Translation, Real-Time Subtitling, And AI-Generated Content Creation.
Three Strategic Priorities of Cooperation: Building Industry Benchmarks
1. Multilingual Translation Platform Development: The partners will co-develop an AI-driven translation platform for film and television, enabling seamless conversion between Chinese, English, and Malay. This system will provide cost-efficient translation and localized dubbing for movies, series, and variety shows, helping content reach broader international audiences.
2. Real-Time Subtitling Solutions: For live broadcasts including news, sports, and major events, the collaboration will deploy real-time subtitle generation technology. The solution will support adaptive display across TV, mobile, and outdoor screens, enhanced by intelligent proofreading to ensure accuracy and accessibility.
3. AI-Generated Content Creation: The partnership will explore generative AI applications throughout production workflows—from writing and storyboarding to automated dubbing. These innovations aim to elevate both the efficiency and quality of content creation while bringing fresh creativity to Malaysian programming.
Dato' Azmir, CEO of Malaysia's National Film Development Corporation (FINAS), remarked: "This partnership represents a watershed moment in merging traditional media with cutting-edge technology. We're excited to leverage iFLYTEK's AI capabilities to deliver richer multilingual content to Malaysian viewers while amplifying our programs' global reach."
Wang Wei, iFLYTEK Vice President and GM of Tingjian Technology, emphasized: "AI proves its worth by addressing genuine industry pain points. This partnership with RTM will fast-track the deployment of speech-to-text and translation technologies across media platforms worldwide, delivering superior communication efficiency to global audiences."
This strategic agreement serves as a bridge for technological and cultural exchange between the two nations while setting industry standards for AI-powered media. The first collaborative deliverables—including multilingual program translations and live subtitling features—are slated for launch in late 2025, advancing the globalization of "technology + content" innovation.
