iFLYTEK Shines at SCIC Brussels 2025, Partnering with SISU to Explore the Future of Interpreting and Translation
On February 6-7, 2025, iFLYTEK was invited to participate in the ‘Interpreting Europe Conference 2025,’ organized by the European Commission's Directorate-General for Interpretation (SCIC). The conference brought together leading experts and scholars in the fields of translation and interpretation to discuss advancements in artificial intelligence, large language models, multilingual translation technologies, and the future of the industry. As a representative of China's translation technology sector, iFLYTEK attended the event at the invitation of Professor Zhengren Li, Co-Chair of UCG/IAMLADP and Executive Dean of the Graduate Institute of Interpretation and Translation (GIIT) at Shanghai International Studies University (SISU) to engage in in-depth discussions on the industry's latest development.
During the conference, iFLYTEK collaborated with SCIC and global experts in exploring the innovative applications of AI technology in the translation and interpretation industry. iFLYTEK also showcased its latest advancements in speech recognition and machine translation. In its presentation, iFLYTEK emphasized that the core competitive advantage of AI translation lies in the deep integration of industry expertise, big data, and core technology. Through continuous technological advancements, AI translation has evolved beyond traditional text-based translation to support real-time multilingual interpretation, making cross-linguistic communication more efficient and seamless.
A key highlight of the event was iFLYTEK's demonstration of its latest large language model applications, particularly China's first end-to-end machine simultaneous translation large language model, launched on January 15. As Professor Irene Zhang, Dean of SISU's GIIT, said in the video message at the launch ceremony, machine translation can meet a significant portion of interpretation demands and can also complement human interpreters. This synergy between AI and professional interpreters not only reduces workload of human interpreters, but also enhances translation quality on various occasions, delivering a more interesting communication experience for the audiences.
This breakthrough overcomes the limitations of traditional translation systems, providing lower latency and higher accuracy in intelligent translation. It enables more complete and fluent simultaneous translation, especially in complex multilingual settings. The unveiling of this technology sparked enthusiastic discussions among experts and scholars from the institutions, including the European Commission, the European Parliament's Directorate-General for Translation, the United Nations, the University of Zurich, to name only a few. Attendees exchanged insights on the future development, practical applications, and impact of AI-powered simultaneous interpretation on the translation industry. The interactions were warm, positive and amicable. Considering the intense interest and lively discussions, the event organizer would continue to invite industry experts to its future meetings.
As the largest interpreting institution in Europe, SCIC plays a crucial role in driving AI integration in the translation and interpretation industry. Meanwhile, SISU, as a globally recognized institution for language research and interpreter/translator training, has been working closely with iFLYTEK on AI translation technology research. This conference not only focused on AI-driven innovations in interpretation and translation but also explored how technology can better serve multilingual communication needs within the EU and beyond. SCIC representatives noted that future interpreting work will increasingly rely on the collaboration between AI and human interpreters to ensure both accuracy and cultural adaptability in translation.
iFLYTEK's presence at SCIC Brussels 2025 showcased China's AI leadership in translation technology and strengthened collaboration with the European translation industry. Moving forward, iFLYTEK will continue to work with SCIC, SISU, and global language technology partners to advance AI translation solutions and contribute to seamless multilingual communication worldwide.
